To Whom It May Concern:

Please accept this letter of introduction as my formal application for the freelance writing position. I am a prospective graduate student at Montclair State University who is just beginning his dissertation work; I hope to complete all work for my Ed.D. in May of 2015. I am also an English teacher at Saddle Brook High School in Saddle Brook, NJ who has a strong passion for writing. Kindly allow me to further explain how my personal and professional experience as both a teacher and a writer, make me an ideal applicant for the position.

Freelance Writing Application

As my résumé indicates, I have had an assortment of writing experiences. Such experiences include, developing and writing curriculum for a variety of courses, revising and editing existing curriculums, and completing my own thesis and dissertation coursework. Some additional experiences, which have inhibited my skills as a writer include, teaching English as a second language and teaching writing courses at County College of Morris in Randolph, New Jersey. As a literary professor, I have fostered students to utilize technology for improving the quality of their work, employ appropriate writing etiquette for personal and professional communication, apply useful strategies for conducting research, and creating literature for websites. My goal is always, not only to exercise my professional skills and abilities to promote students' scholarly engagement, but also to help them become articulate, confident, well-versed writers - even if it is not a natural born talent; "It's none of their business that you have to learn to write. Let them think you were born that way" - Earnest Hemmingway.

Moreover, the most gratifying and developmental experiences for me as a professional writer (and teacher), have been instructing learners on an individual basis as a writing tutor at County College of Morris' Academic Writing Center. I find that I always look forward to the individual conferences that I hold with my students several times during the semester to offer feedback and allow them to reflect on their work; I firmly believe this kind of one-on-one interaction is a vital attribute for one's development as writers. In addition to my experience teaching writing, I have also had the opportunity to work as a mentor for prospective teachers, a position that involved instruction in various methods of linguistic and ESL/ELL teaching practices, development of course materials, and writing performance evaluations of new instructors; such experiences have allowed me a supreme chance to further sharpen various areas of my writing capabilities.

On a personal level, my experiences with my students have allowed me an ample opportunity to further conduct my own educational research. My current dissertation examines the pedagogy and effectiveness of current curriculums and methods utilized for teaching reading and writing to students at the secondary level. I argue that, despite several advances made in education, there are a rising number of students entering college whom require some type of remediation; these students lack proficient knowledge of English grammar and basic writing skills.

Long after my dissertation work has been completed, I plan to still continue my passion for research by investigating various educational practices and theories to, in turn, further develop my skills as a write for, "Any man who keeps working is not a failure" - Ray Bradbury

I anticipate the opportunity to discuss in greater detail, my candidacy for this position. I have enclosed my résumé accompanied by writing samples for your perusal and would gladly send any additional materials to assist in your decision making process. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Sincerely,
